Suburban boasts a top-caliber faculty of professional musicians who focus on student development and performance. Study at Suburban enables students not only to gain practical knowledge from experts, but also to immerse themselves in a community rich with arts and music enthusiasts and passionate performers. This experience delivers a powerful impact on students’ comprehensive education and appreciation for the arts. Founded by Beatrice Wernick in 1982, Suburban Music School began with seven students in the Media Elementary School. In 1988, the school moved to its permanent home at 201 North Providence Road, where it is open six days a week. In addition to a full curriculum on campus and next door at the Providence Friends Meeting House, Suburban provides community outreach programs to the surrounding area, including the Chester Music Program and Visiting Artists Program for public and private schools in the area. Suburban has been a full member of the National Guild of Community Schools of the Arts since 1992.
